An LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) boiler uses gas stored in a tank on your property to heat water and provide central heating. It works similarly to a natural gas boiler, but it is ideal for homes not connected to the mains gas network.
LPG boilers are highly efficient and offer lower carbon emissions compared to oilfired systems. They are compatible with many modern condensing boiler models, providing reliable heating and hot water with a smaller environmental impact.
LPG is stored in a tank or cylinders on your property. The tank is either above or below ground and is refilled periodically by a supplier. Modern monitoring systems can track usage and schedule refills automatically.
Like other boilers, LPG boilers should be serviced annually by a Gas Saferegistered engineer. Regular servicing ensures the system runs efficiently, identifies potential issues early, and keeps your boiler safe and compliant.
Signs include unusual noises, poor heating performance, fluctuating water temperature, and frequent pressure drops. If your boiler shows any of these symptoms, it’s important to call a qualified engineer for an inspection and repair.
Installation typically takes 1-2 days, depending on the complexity of the system and whether additional work, such as installing an LPG storage tank or upgrading pipework, is required.
LPG can be slightly more expensive than natural gas, but its efficiency can offset the cost. Additionally, LPG boilers are often more affordable than oil-fired boilers, and they produce fewer emissions, making them a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative for off-grid homes.
If your LPG boiler breaks down, first check the basics, such as fuel levels, power supply, and thermostat settings. If the issue persists, contact a Gas Safe-registered engineer for professional repairs. Never attempt to fix the boiler yourself, as this can be dangerous and may void warranties.
